Register to vote in December’s general election

Tandridge District Council is urging residents to make sure they are registered to vote in the next general election.

On Thursday 12 December voters will go to the polls to elect their Member of Parliament in the general election. The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Tuesday 26 November. Anyone not registered to vote at their current address can register online at

Voting by post

If you will be unable to cast your vote in person on 12 December, you can apply for a postal or proxy vote. Voting by post is an easy and convenient alternative to voting in person. The deadline to apply to vote by post for the general election is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.

Voting by proxy

Proxy voting allows you to nominate someone else to cast your vote for you. The deadline to apply to vote by proxy at the general election is 5pm on Thursday 4 December.

Voting in person

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 12 December. Poll cards will be sent to everyone who is eligible to vote in the week beginning 11 November. The poll card will give details of the polling station you need to go to.

Staff at the polling station will give you a ballot paper listing the candidates you can vote for. If you need any assistance at the polling station the Presiding Officer can help, or you can bring someone else to help you, for example a support worker, as long as they are either a relative or an eligible elector.
