Hobson’s Choice

Details:

The classic comedy Hobson’s Choice by Harold Brighouse is set in the late 19th century in Salford and centres around Henry Horatio Hobson, a widower and boot-shop proprietor, who is much incensed at the ‘general increase of uppishness’ amongst his three daughters. The climax comes when he accuses his eldest daughter Maggie of being past the marrying age. Maggie promptly retaliates by marrying Hobson’s best boot-hand, Will Mossop, and turning this retiring youth into a sturdy fellow whose new confidence makes him a real business rival to Hobson. This has dire consequences for Hobson and leads him to disown the entire family until common sense prevails. The Oxted Players are performing Hobson’s Choice from 17th to 20th October at 7.45 with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets costing £8.00 – £10.00 are available from www.barntheatreoxted.co.uk or 01883 724852
